Mozambique: Chokwe flooding Januari 2013

January 24th a flood hit the Chokwe town in Mozambique. Water from the Limpopo river rose quick, leaving people no other choice but to evacuate Chokwe town. The EAU4Food research site is located in Chokwe and we visited the area last October during out annual project meeting. At the moment of the flood, students were working in the area; they had to evacuate the area together with the farmers. It is unclear what the current situation is, though the army is present to help clean the area. Probably the whole rice production of this year is lost. In the next few weeks it will become more clear how this flood affected the project's progress in the area. Follow this link for more information regarding the Chokwe flood.
